Hiya all,
I'm always on the look out for new and interesting way to either thank people or ideas for wishing them a happy birthday, or even a new house present. So when Baker Days contacting asking if id like to review one of there valentines letter box cakes, i was more than happy to say the least.
I had never heard of a letter box cake, the two had never come together in my mind, surely any cake sent my post would reach the recipient in a less than appetising condition, or so i thought.
I went onto bakerdays website and was met by a huge range (over 400) of not only designs for any occasions but five different flavours for cakes too, i think its great that they do a gluten& wheat free version. Really is something for everyone.
I decided on one of there valentines designs and when a little white box landed oin the hallway, i thought that there was no way there was a cake inside. I was very ecited to open the parcel but half worried about the condition it may be in.

The cake was in perfect condition, in a beautiful tin. I was shocked and amazed at the same time.
I sneakily parcelled it back up and waited for Gareth to come home, and me and Harry surprised him.
This day he had had a rather poop day at work, working 6am-6pm, so when we said he had to close his eyes and there was going to be a surprise, he perked up and seemed excited.
He opened the box and looked a bit puzzled at first, Harry then told him to open the tin, and when he did, he was very surprised, and pleased.
The cake i decided on was for Gareth, not only personalised with a name but they had Incorporated the picture id sent in of Gareth's face too, im a sucker for personalisation. I had got them to have it say 'Happy Valentines Day - all our love Lucy & Bobo' This really made him smile.
Gareth couldn't believe it was an actual real cake and that it had been through the postal system. He even pinched the icing on the side, just to check it was real.
He remarked how much of a good idea it is, he has a great aunt that live a distance away from us and we don't get to see and her family them often. He often sends her flowers for her birthday, but he said how this would really surprise her and would be something really different.
Now onto the important bit - taste!

Harry was first to try some, and wolfed down a slice, (so quick i wasnt able to take a picture) as did my niece who thought it was very funny that it had Gareth's face on. I then tried it and was shocked at how tasty it actually was. Very moist and not overly sweet, a really nice tasting sponge and icing.
The cakes from bakers days cost from £14.99 for a small cake which i think is reasonable for how it comes presented, we have paid nearly £30 to get a small bunch of flowers delivered to his aunt, so this would be a bargain in comparison, and just as, if not more, personal and thoughtful.
Bakerdays has a huge range of products, for any occasion you can think of. I for sure would love to receive one, i just think there genius.
I loved our bakers days cake too, glad it made your hubby smile :)
